Below is an easy guide to understanding the various approaches and styles that Wedding Photographers will take.

Traditional:

A Traditional style of photography is one that takes a very formal approach to the way the wedding is shot, usually very posed and rigid images that follow a specific set of images.

This style of photography is employed by many photographers and is slowly being overtaken by more fluid approaches that are considered more modern.

Traditional photography styles consist of posed groups and stiff portraits and generally work to a script.

Although slightly out dated there are many people who look for a traditional wedding photographer or traditional images from a wedding photographer as many Grandparents and Mothers that would be more comfortable with a large traditional portrait hanging on their walls.

There will always be a place for Traditional wedding photography as it is deeply rooted in the wedding photography world and as wedding photography is still a very formal event traditional images will always record it as such.

Contemporary:

Contemporary Wedding Photographers generally shoot anything that is not formally posed. This is generally a very broad style and as such lends itself to a free approach that can give a random set of images that could make your wedding images more unique.

The downside to contemporary styles of photography are that by its very nature it must be ever changing and fashionable to stay ahead of the game which means images could date very quickly.

Contemporary photographers will look for a great settings and backgrounds for your images and create a more idealised set of Wedding photographs, when done correctly the results can be fantastic and you will have a unique and memorable album.

Many Wedding Photographers use contemporary images to submit for awards and can look like the kind of images seen in glossy magazines.

Reportage

Reportage:

Reportage wedding photographers generally act as a fly on the wall recording every step of your day, sometimes even from before the wedding day.

The aim of a reportage photographer is to be as unobtrusive as possible not interfering with your special day but hopefully capturing the moments that are easily forgotten.

This style of wedding photography is becoming very common with photographers and brides and grooms as it gives a real depiction of their special day. The only real downside is that there is no way of knowing what you are going to get as you are relying on somebody else's interpretation of your day.

Artistic:

An Artistic style as you can imagine is one that is exactly what you might expect a very different individual approach that is entirely lead by the individual style of the photographer.

This is a less popular but none the less valid style of Wedding Photography that can give your wedding a very different and magical feel.

Although this may be a less popular style your wedding images will be extremely unique.
